What is Vegas Strip S17?
Vegas Strip S17 refers to the 6-deck high-limit blackjack ruleset historically associated with the Bellagio, Wynn, Aria, and Cosmopolitan high-limit areas. The crucial S17 (dealer stands on soft 17) is the defining feature — most Strip tables now serve H17 except in the high-limit area. The full surrender rule on all dealer up-cards and DAS make this one of the strongest Vegas rule combinations the average player can realistically find.
The key rule changes vs Evolution Classic
- 6 decks instead of 8 — slightly better for the player on basic strategy and significantly better for card counting.
- Late surrender available on every dealer up-card (not just Ace). Critical for 16 vs 9/10/A and 15 vs 10.
- Double after split allowed — expands split decisions on 2-2/3-3/4-4/6-6.
- Up to 3 splits (4 hands) — useful for back-to-back same-rank pairs.
Strategy adjustments
Standard 6-deck S17 basic strategy applies — almost identical to Macau Standard but with double restricted to any 2 cards (Macau is the same here):
- Surrender hard 16 vs dealer 9 / 10 / A, and hard 15 vs dealer 10 (every basic-strategy chart that mentions surrender uses these lines).
- Split 2-2 / 3-3 vs dealer 2-3, split 4-4 vs dealer 5-6, split 6-6 vs dealer 2 (all DAS-enabled).
- Stand on soft 18 vs dealer 9 / 10 / A (do not hit) — S17 makes 18 strong enough.
- Always split A-A and 8-8 regardless of dealer card.
House edge
EV Solver computes Vegas Strip S17 at 0.33% house edge (99.67% RTP) — about 0.38 pt better than Evolution Classic 8-deck and only 0.08 pt worse than Macau Standard (which has Double Any on top of these rules). The combination of S17 + 6 decks + DAS + late surrender + full peek delivers one of the best house-edge rates available on a Vegas casino floor. Caveat: most Strip tables now serve the H17 variant at lower limits (see /rules/vegas-strip-h17), which adds about 0.20 pt to the house edge.
