What is Evolution Classic Blackjack?
Evolution Classic Blackjack is the studio's flagship live-dealer game using 8 decks, dealer stands on soft 17, dealer peeks only when showing an Ace, no double-after-split, no surrender, and pays 3:2 on a natural. It is the cleanest reference rule on the live floor and the basis for nearly every Evolution variant. If you understand Classic, every other Evolution table is a delta on top.
The rules
- 8 decks (416 cards) — Vegas/Macau standard live deck count.
- Dealer stands on soft 17 (S17) — worth ~0.20 pt RTP vs H17.
- Dealer peeks on Ace up-card only (American hole-card rule).
- No double after split, no resplit (max 1 split = 2 hands).
- No surrender of any kind.
Strategy
Standard 8-deck S17 basic strategy applies — the textbook chart used in every basic-strategy guide. Notable lines:
- Stand on hard 12-16 against dealer 2-6 (let the dealer bust).
- Double hard 11 vs any 2-10; double hard 10 vs 2-9; double hard 9 vs 3-6.
- Always split A-A and 8-8; never split T-T or 5-5.
- Without DAS, hold off on splitting 2-2/3-3/6-6 against dealer 2-3; split only when the basic-strategy chart explicitly says so.
House edge
EV Solver computes Evolution Classic at 0.71% house edge (99.29% RTP) with optimal basic strategy on a fresh 8-deck shoe. This is the reference figure every other variant on this site compares against. The Evolution variants (Free Bet 1.54%, Power 1.20%, Always 6 0.66%, Infinite 0.53%) sit on either side of this baseline depending on which rule add-ons net positive or negative for the player.
