UK ENHC Blackjack — Rules, Hit Split Aces & Strategy
UK ENHC Standard is the canonical British casino blackjack: 6 decks S17 with No Hole Card (ENHC), no surrender, DAS, Double Any, BJ 3:2. The standout feature is Hit Split Aces — you can take additional cards after splitting Aces, unlike almost every other ruleset worldwide. Offered at Hippodrome London, Empire Casino Leicester Square, and Aspers tables.

What is UK ENHC Standard?
UK casinos operate under the Gambling Commission's ENHC rule (dealer takes no hole card). The compensation for ENHC's downside (losing full doubled / split stakes to dealer BJ) is Hit Split Aces — when you split a pair of Aces, you can hit each resulting hand instead of receiving exactly one card. This is rare globally and shifts split-Ace EV positive in some scenarios. No surrender is offered. DAS and Double Any are standard.
Key rule features
- 6 decks (312 cards) — UK casino standard shoe.
- No Hole Card (ENHC) — dealer doesn't take a 2nd card until you finish. Doubles and splits placed before dealer BJ lose the full extra stake.
- Hit Split Aces — after splitting A-A, you can hit each Ace (instead of the global standard of 1 forced card). This is unique to UK regulation.
- No surrender — hard 15/16 vs dealer 10/A must be played out.
- Double after split allowed; double on any 2-card total.
Strategy adjustments
6-deck S17 basic strategy with UK ENHC-specific tweaks:
- Always split A-A — Hit Split Aces makes this strictly better than standard rules. Continue hitting until soft 18-21 or hard 17+.
- Hit hard 15/16 vs dealer 10/A — no surrender, no option but to play out. Some marginal +EV vs hitting 17 due to small chance of pulling Ace = 6/7.
- Be conservative on hard 11 vs dealer A / soft 18 vs 9-A — ENHC penalty applies to the full doubled stake if dealer draws BJ.
- Standard splits OK (2/3/7/8/9 same as multi-deck S17); skip 4-4 vs 5-6 marginal under ENHC.
House edge
UK ENHC Standard's house edge is among the lowest in mainstream blackjack thanks to the Hit Split Aces rule, which restores most of the EV lost to ENHC. Use the embedded solver above to compute exact action EV. Note: in practice some UK rooms (London casinos especially) offer 6:5 BJ at lower-limit tables — Fullcount's default is 3:2 (legacy standard). Switch the BJ payout in the custom rule editor if your table is 6:5.
